Sage – the sacred herb. Sage has been used as a medicinal herb since antiquity. Its Latin name, Salvia, derived from salvare (to save, to heal), reflects its significance. In the Middle Ages, the herb was used to treat colds, fever, toothaches, and colic.
Sage essential oil has a strong antibacterial effect. It also has antiviral properties and can be used to treat herpes. In the lungs and sinuses, it acts as an antibacterial and expectorant and can be used to support treatment for colds and respiratory illnesses such as asthma or hay fever.
Sage essential oil has a stimulating effect on brain metabolism; when inhaled, it can enhance cognitive function and memory.
Applications:
As a mouthwash or gargle for oral care, especially for gum problems and throat/pharyngeal ailments.
As a refreshing foot bath.
In an aroma lamp to support mental work/studying.
Inhalation or aroma lamp use for colds.
Precautions:
Sage essential oil should be used in small doses in all applications and not for extended periods. Overdosing can cause neurotoxic effects.
This oil is not suitable for pregnant women, young children, people with epilepsy, or for internal use.
